Breville One Touch Tea Maker

Leo’s Breville Variable Temperature Kettle (Episode 947) turned out to be a defective one, but since then he’s bought a Breville Toaster Oven – the Smart Oven.  Dick has another Breville, with one more feature than Leo’s Breville kettle.  It’s the One Touch Tea Maker, which has a tea basket in which you put your tea leaves.  Select the tea type for the correct brewing temperature, select the strength of the tea you want, and the tea basket will be gently lowered into the water for the correct amount of time, and then raised out of it to give you the perfect cup of tea.

Wedding Anniversary

Dick and Leo recorded today’s show on 20 April which was Leo and Jennifer’s 19th wedding anniversary.  Leo thinks for some reason it’s their bronze anniversary, and reckons he can get a Frederic Remington piece of bronze sculpture.

It’s a Scam?

Frustrated Steve C has been trying for years to get a Woot Box of Crap and has never succeeded.  He’s come to the realisation that it doesn’t exist and Woot is just keeping it up as a publicity stunt.  Steve C must have sent the letter before Episode 1072.

MAD Magazine Clock

Dick’s MAD Magazine Alfred E Neuman clock (Episode 1065) is still on eBay, and the auction will close tomorrow.  It’s for a good cause – Dick’s Gadget Warehouse, which by the way, has had a new lift installed recently.

jammerb's Woot Box of Crap

Avid gadget buyer Steve Millerwas the first to write in about the Woot Box of Crap (also called box of carp), in Episode 796.  Then in Episode 1021, another listener reported his fantastic catch at Christmas.  Back then, Leo said that these special occasions Woot Boxes of Crap were very hard to get, as explained to him by jammerb, or John Slanina.  One of these occasions is April Fools’ Day. One would have to jump through hoops to get it, if one was lucky enough to make connection with the Woot server in the first place.

Jammerb got into the act on the last April Fools’ Day, and Leo couldn’t wait to let jammerb talk about Woot, and let Leo off the hook on TTTT.

Dick, Leo and jammerb play “What’s In the Box?”  John’s April Fools Woot Loot turns out to be not so great.  It includes some Woot lights, a High School Musical Clock, and some old Christmas cards.  For jammerb, it’s all worth it, because he gets to appear on the show.

A Spanking Letter

Randy Cola from Long Beach chastises Leo for calling Dick “Dickie De” instead of “Dick De”.  Dick explains that people at MAD call him Dick De, but Dickie De is a bastardised version to which he deigns to respond.  Does one say “safe deposit box” or “safety deposit box”, and “non” or “nun”?  Randy has listened to every episode of the show since Episode 1, and he can genuinely say that he “sort of” likes the show, but seriously he likes the way Dick and Leo improvise on the show.  It reminds him of good old-fashioned humour.

The statuette for the Podcast Award the show won has finally arrived, thanks to Todd Cochrane.  Dick and Leo won in the comedy category.  See Episode 981.

Online Gadget

Rob M Lansing from Michigan listens to so many TWiT shows that he uses an online service called Podshifter to help speed up the podcasts.  Another listener called Devon Blaugh suggested the same service back in Episode 929.  Leo gives the same comment.  Although Podshifter is a good service, TWiT doesn’t get the numbers for downloads through Podshifter (as they don’t go through the podtrac redirect).  The iPod already has the speed-up function and that’s what he suggests listeners do if they have an iPod.

MacWorld Live

Leo will be hosting MacWorld Live this Friday.  The line-up will include Heather Gold, Roger McGuinn, Adam Savage and Warp 11 featuring Kiki Stockhammer. It will be streamed on TWiTLive at 2 p.m. Pacific Time.

iPad

Stephen Colbert had an iPad at the Grammy Awards, one of 50 iPads believed to be in existence.  Sadly Leo hasn’t got one of them.

Dick and Leo think that they think alike.  Whether they do or not, it’s scary.

In Episode 973, Dick bought a Mystery Box of Crap from X10, and he wasn’t well pleased with it.  He became even less pleased when he heard that Nicholas Tudor paid $3 plus $5 shipping for a Woot Box of Crap, which included a hand-held game Einstein Number Wizard, an LG bluetooth stereo headset, a digital video camera, a SanDisk Sansa Clip 8GB refurbished, two Sansa Clips 2GB refurbished, two sets of Sansa headphones, a Belkin XM radio case, the Frogger hand-held game, the Tornado and one Back To Basics Nut Roaster !!!!

Jammerb’s Words of Comfort

jammerb, properly known as John Slanina and who recently joined the staff of TWiT, is the only one left in the TWiT Cottage who still speaks to Leo.  He tells Leo that Woot does these great deals only 3 times a year: April 1, July 2, and Christmas midnight Central time.  They’re very hard to get – in case we get too envious of Nicholas Tudor’s catch.
