Withings Scale

Leo takes living in the public eye to another level with the Withings Scale, a sleek-looking Wifi-enabled scale that sends your weight measurements to the internet.  It comes with a USB port which you connect to your computer and it will configure itself, but it will need information about your wifi network at home.  After the initial configuration, it works entirely wirelessly.  A web dashboard keeps track of your weight – which you can access using a web browser or an iPhone app.  The scale also sends a small current through your body to make an assessment of the percentage of fat in your body.

You can keep the information entirely private, or if you’re Leo, you can share it with your friends, publish it on your web page or via Twitter (twitter.com/leos_scale), or link it to Google Health.

Life Hardly Worth Living

Benjamin Ford of Rochester, New York, is looking forward to reaching Episode 1000.  Sometimes it seems that life would hardly be worth living if it weren’t for the Daily Giz Wiz.

IBM Commercials

Benjamin notes that some time ago Dick and Leo talked about the IBM Selectric typewriters (e.g. in Episode 283) and believes that they also talked about the IBM 224 Dictation UnitDuke University has posted on iTunes U archive TV commercials from the 1960′s of IBM products including these products.

What interests Benjamin most is a short film (2 minutes 49 seconds) on IBM’s Sage Computer System being used as part of an air-defence unit.
