SanDisk Cruzer from 2002
Introduced at CES 2002, the original SanDisk Cruzer hailed itself as “the world’s first personal, pocket-size storage device with removable flash memory cards”. Essentially it was a USB1.1 SD/MMC card reader, thumb drive style. The USB plug could be extended and retracted, and when retracted, the removable memory card would come out from the other end. Because it was Mass Storage Class compliant, it was compatible with Windows 2000, ME and XP, and Mac OS 9 and OSX, without the need to install drivers. The original Cruzer came in bundles of different SD card capacities, from 64MB to 256MB, a USB extension cable and a basic file encryption software program called Cruzer Lock. The 256MB bundle would cost you almost $200 – and it was still USB1.1.
First Computers
Alex’s first computer that he owned was an Apple IIe, which his father bought him. Dick’s was the Atari 800.

Brooking Disappointment
James Brooks bought the Motorola S805 Bluetooth DJ Stereo Headset after listening to Episode 927. A cable required for charging was missing from his package. Being a gadget nut he was able to use another charger. At the hugely discounted price the headset was going for, James was willing to brook the slight disappointment.
A Gadget Fanatic
Bill Gaines was a bit of a gadget fanatic himself and, like Dick, was prone to falling prey to bargains and discounts including the Casio TE2500 Dictionary Watch (Episode 45).
